Unity’s Beliefs and Values
Key Ideas about Unity
Unity is a teaching rather than a creed.
Unity offers a practical way of life more than a set of beliefs.
Unity practices the religion of Jesus rather that the religion about Jesus.
Unity is Christian – though we recognize the Truth and goodness found in all religions, we accept Jesus Christ as our primary Teacher and Way shower.
Honoring Diversity within the Unity Movement—
We believe that all people are created with sacred worth.
Unity’s Five Basic Teachings
There are five basic teachings that make up Unity’s approach to spirituality, the Bible, the teachings of Jesus, and our relationship with God. These teachings are not Creeds or Dogmas but are considered ideas and principles that provide a foundation for growth and awakening to a greater experience of God and God’s will for expanding good in our lives in the world. The teachings are:
First – God is the source and creator of all. There is no other enduring power. God is good.
Second – Humankind is divine. We are spiritual beings created in God’s image. The spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good.
Third – We create our life experiences through our way of thinking. The Law of Mind Action.
Fourth – Prayer and Meditation: There is power in affirmative prayer which we believe increases our connection to God. This is how we know God.
Fifth – Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough, to be spiritual alive we must live them.
